From the voice, the eyes, the posture, a thousand little things, he can tell it's Emil again, somehow. Sitting down beside him. Fidgeting. Richter refuses to initiate conversation.

"I know it's probably too soon to even ask," Emil says, "but I -- you were my first friend, and -- do you think you'll ever be able to forgive me? ...Him? ...Us?"

Richter can't look at him, can't answer to Aster's face. "Forever is a long time," he says. You were my first friend. If it were just Emil -- then there would be nothing to forgive. Richter shakes his head. "I don't know."
