Emil's hands won't stop shaking as he follows Richter into the cave. He's so relieved he feels almost sick, even though that doesn't make any sense. Uncle Alba was really mad, probably as mad as Emil has ever seen him, and Richter acted like it was nothing. He stood his ground, even -- he actually scared Uncle Alba, didn't he? And made him leave Emil alone. Nobody's ever done that before.

The cave is dark inside, and scary, but Emil won't let himself turn back. Richter saved him.

He hopes he'll get a chance to do something good for Richter, too.
