Estelle squints against the wavering lamplight. “Rita?”

There’s a crash and a curse and Rita looks over her shoulder wildly. Scribbled, crumpled parchment and little bits of metal are strewn across the table.

“I-I had an idea,” she says, and it’s obvious that she’s only half awake. Her hair is tousled and the tie to her sleeping pants is loose. “You know I can’t sleep when I have an idea…”

Estelle holds out her hand. “Come on. You don’t have to solve all the mysteries tonight, do you?”

After a moment’s hesitation, Rita puts down her pen. “I guess not.”
