This was, Dhaos knew, a mere shadow of a hope—their only hope, perhaps, but one at the mercy of time and fate, circumstances he could not control. However, only Dhaos would survive the mana drain time-travel inflicted, and so he made his decision without hesitation.
But though he swore that his cherished people would see him again, though he promised the children of the palace he would come back for them, though he told his beloved she would not even notice he had been gone, Dhaos could not shake the feeling that he would not return to Derris-Kharlan alive.
