He remembered hiding awkwardly behind his father's back as those words fell. What was settled? What did that mean? What was going to happen?
He was told there were reasons. He was told he would grow up, he would understand, he would accept it. And he grew up. He understood- he made himself understand, yet understanding it didn't make him accept it.

"It's settled, then?" The question was nothing but a meaningless formality: Raymond was fond of those.
A short nod and a quick cold glance was Hubert's only answer.
This time, Lhant would have to understand.
