Colonel Curtiss had been working with General Cecille for months, ensuring security was a mix of Kimlascan and Malkuth forces, forcing that mixture to work together. Emperor Peony's entry into Baticul was without ceremony, but there would be public assemblies, balls, dinners.
Jade should have expected to return and find the temporary Imperial quarters empty.
Guy was in the anteroom of the Coliseum, pacing below the lists. The announcer called out the third challenge, the iron grating lifted, the challenger below bounced on his toes.
Jade growled.
"Rappig curry, Franz."
Peony would win, of course. But that wasn't the point.
